Where is Namah Stay Himalayas?
Namah Stay Himalayas is a homestay in Kanatal, in the Tehri Garhwal district of Uttarakhand, India. The cottage stands in an apple orchard at about 2,300 metres, just off the Mussoorie to Chamba road, 4 km from Surkanda Devi Temple and 9 km from Dhanaulti.
How far is the homestay from Dehradun, Mussoorie and Delhi?
It is about 43 km from Mussoorie (1.5 to 2 hours), 65 km from Dehradun (2.5 to 3 hours), 80 km from Rishikesh (about 3 hours) and 300 km from Delhi (7 to 8 hours by road). The nearest airport is Jolly Grant in Dehradun, about 88 km away, and the nearest railway station is Dehradun.
When does it snow in Kanatal?
Snow is most likely in Kanatal from late December to February, and January usually sees the heaviest falls. Snow cannot be promised for a particular date, so message us before you travel and we will tell you what the ridge looks like that week.
What is the best time to visit Kanatal?
March to June brings cool clear days and apple blossom, September to November has the sharpest Himalayan views, and December to February is the season for snow. July and August are green and misty, with regular rain.
Does the food really come from your own farm?
Much of it does. Apples, walnuts, kiwi, pears, seasonal vegetables, greens, herbs and wild berries grow in our own organic garden and orchard around the cottage, and what is in season goes on the table. What we do not grow is sourced as locally as we can.
What grows at Namah Stay Himalayas?
Apple, walnut, pear and kiwi in the orchard, pahadi kakdi (mountain cucumber), potatoes, leafy greens and other seasonal vegetables in the terraced beds, and Himalayan herbs. In season the hillside also gives hisalu, the golden Himalayan raspberry, and now and then gucchi, the wild morel mushroom.
How do I book a stay?
Choose your dates on the booking page, where the calendar shows which nights are free, and send the request. We confirm on WhatsApp with the tariff and payment details. You can also call or WhatsApp +91 97627 26029 directly.
Is the calendar on this website the same as on Airbnb?
Yes. The booking calendar on this website reads our Airbnb calendar, so nights booked there show as unavailable here, and bookings confirmed here are sent back to Airbnb. Booking direct on the website means you talk to us from the first message.
Can we book the entire cottage?
Yes. Families and groups can take the whole cottage for themselves. Tell us how many of you are coming and we plan the rooms around your group.
Is the homestay suitable for children and elders?
Yes. There is a play corner with a swing and a slide on the deck, and open orchard to run in. The cottage stands on a hillside, so tell us if anyone in your group prefers fewer stairs and we will suggest the right room.
What is there to do near the homestay?
Surkanda Devi Temple is 4 km away, Dhanaulti and its eco parks 9 km, and Tehri Lake 40 km. At the cottage itself there are orchard walks, birdwatching, bonfire evenings, stargazing and, in winter, snow.
How do I reach Surkanda Devi Temple from the homestay?
Drive 4 km to Kaddukhal on the Mussoorie to Chamba road. From there the temple is a steep walk of about 2 km, or a short ride on the ropeway. The temple sits at about 2,750 metres and has a full view of the snow peaks on a clear day.
Is there a bonfire?
Yes. Bonfire evenings are part of a stay at Namah, weather permitting. Tell us when you book and we will have it ready.
How is a homestay different from a hotel in Kanatal?
A homestay is one home with its hosts, not a building full of rooms. At Namah that means a single orchard cottage, food from our own garden, a fire in the evening and people who know the hills, rather than a reception desk and a buffet.
What should I pack for Kanatal in winter?
Carry warm layers, a heavy jacket, gloves, a cap and shoes with good grip. Winter nights on the ridge can drop below freezing, and after fresh snow the last few kilometres can be slow.
